Actress and singer-songwriter Margot Bingham is best known for her role as jazz singer Daughter Maitland on ‘Boardwalk Empire.’ Margot is soon relocating from New York to Atlanta to join AMC’s, ‘The Walking Dead.’
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
I’m currently working on an NBC show called ‘New Amsterdam.’ It’s a doctor procedural with an amazing cast and crew that shoots in New York City. I am also super excited to soon join AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ out in Atlanta.
WHAT ARE SOME SMALL THINGS YOU DO TO HELP IN LIVING A SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLE?
I’m fearful of plastic. Just seeing a grocery store needlessly double-up a plastic bag for a customer can give me a panic attack. So I try to be mindful of limiting the plastic products I use throughout the day: garbage and Ziploc bags, doggy waste bags, my toothbrush and toothpaste, etc. I am changing old habits and looking for better solutions. One day I hope to be completely plastic free. If we all take notice of our lifestyles and made small adjustments — whether it be about our use of plastic or the clothing we wear or other things we do that affect global issues – collectively we can make a big impact.
HOW DO YOU STAY HEALTHY AND IN SHAPE WHILE TRAVELING?
I think ahead and bring healthy snacks. Like everyone else, when I see something yummy, my instinct is to grab it! So I try to be smart and plan out my treats. But maybe more importantly, when I do indulge, I try to enjoy it vs racking myself with guilt about eating something “bad.” That kind of thinking can only have a negative effect on the body. I allow myself to have what I want and then I go an extra mile or two on my walk or jog, or I push myself harder in a dance class. Traveling is fun and so it motivates me to exercise!
FOR WHAT IN YOUR LIFE DO YOU FEEL MOST GRATEFUL?
I wake up every morning and remind myself of the things for which I am grateful. Even if it’s the worst day ever, it’s so important to have gratitude. I am incredibly grateful for my family and support system, which keeps me grounded and humbled. And if I am having an off day, they provide me with perspective to help me find my way back.
IT’S 9PM ON A WEDNESDAY: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
I am rushing home to watch Killing Eve on Hulu! It’s become my new obsession, and I usually pair it with a nice glass of Pinot.

ME A PANIC ATTACK. ”
DESCRIBE A PERFECT DAY FOR YOU.
I love waking-up and enjoying a cup of coffee while sitting with my dog Joni. I also try to start my day with meditation, even if it’s only for 15 minutes. I enjoy tidying-up my living space. Then I’ll go for a workout, and then maybe meet a friend for a late lunch. I love wandering around the Flatiron, or in Chelsea Market, getting lost in some flower shop or knick-knack store. I’ll meet-up with my guy for a glass of wine over happy hour. Then we’ll come home and watch an episode of Ramy while eating Thai!
WHAT ERA, DAY OR EVENT IN HISTORY WOULD YOU LIKE TO RELIVE?
The 1920’s. This has a lot to do with my time on Boardwalk Empire! Lol! The fashion during that period was amazing – as was the desperation to just get through the week (or day!) alive, taking nothing for granted. If I lived during that era I would, of course, be a jazz singer at the Cotton Club in Harlem, performing with some of the best jazz musicians of all time. It was a very passionate time. And there was an excellence in Black culture, and a unity of race due to segregation and racial divisiveness.
WHAT ARE YOUR THREE FAVORITE KATLA PIECES?
My first purchase from Katla was the Black Hoodie. I never take it off – it’s officially attached to me! It is ridiculously comfy, great to travel with or dress up with a blazer and skinny jeans! I also love the Maria Slip Dress. I love how it hugs my curves; I can move in it and feel super feminine and sexy. I’m also a big fan of the Agga Skirt. I can either dress it way up with jewels or keep it funky and casual with a midriff tee and sneakers. It is by far the softest item I own!
